Your Headshot Session

I like to shoot several looks during my headshot sessions (only 1 look/outfit change in the "on the go" session). This range of looks provides you with options to use the images in different areas as needed to round out your personal and professional brand. We will shoot headshots, ¾ shots, and any other frames we determine as most valuable to your goals. I like to work on each look until we have exactly what we’re trying to create. You should plan extra time for your headshot and photo session to include travel to the studio, hair and makeup, and photo review in addition to the actual shooting time.

We will review the session as we go. You’ll be able to see the images as we create them and together, we will determine each photo’s potential. Once we’ve identified the images we want to work with, you’ll be able to further evaluate them with friends, family, agents, or associates in your own private proofing gallery online. From this gallery, you’ll be able to download images, order prints, or select images to send to my professional retoucher. Professional retouching, prints, and additional downloads are priced separately from the shoot and are available for 1 year after your session.

For quality control reasons, I prefer all of my work to be handled by myself, my contracted retoucher, and my designated print labs. I do not release high-resolution raw images directly to clients unless they elect to purchase a full buyout of the entire session ($279). This protects our work from being marginalized or substantially modified by a non-vetted retoucher or print lab.

Pre-shoot considerations:

Preparation:

Identify where and how you will want to use the images. For example, framing photos is different for Linkedin than it is for a large hero image on a Wordpress index page. I’m very familiar with how images have to be formatted for each use. However unless you come to me with a plan or a goal that we will collaborate to achieve, I will not know how to frame each photo for various uses.

Clothing and Looks:

Please bring several outfits and options for clothing. For headshots, we will focus on the top and often can create several looks easily by using tops with different color and contrast to create a specific look and feel. For ¾ and full body photos, the entire outfit will be more significant a consideration.

In our pre-shoot consultation, I will take your information and discuss the goals with my stylist. We’ll make suggestions to help you with your wardrobe choices for the photo session.

The most important factor contributing to the success of your wardrobe choice for the shoot is how comfortable you are wearing that particular outfit. Bring several outfits and have fun with it.

Hair and Makeup

Hair: I ask that everyone come to the shoot with their hair ready the way you would like to present yourself in the photos. I do have stylists available. If you’d like to hire them to work with you, I'm happy to arrange that.

Makeup: Makeup for the session is highly recommended for all women. The cost for makeup is $65.00 is applied specifically for the lighting I use. I only guarantee the quality of photos when one of the makeup artists I work with does your makeup on set in the studio. Correctly applied makeup can make or break a shoot and is an invaluable component of the studio session. We start with a natural, clean, and simple look. If you prefer a more specific direction with makeup, we are happy to do that as well as long as we know it will work well with our lighting and photography work to achieve the goals you have for the shoot.
